MAKE & TAKE Programs at Rosenberg Railroad Museum
by Jennifer Dolcefino

The Rosenberg Railroad Museum is offering a new series of programs. Make & Takes are programs that allow pre-school through elementary school age kids to become actively involved in holiday preparations. Museum staff and volunteers help the kids as they make a craft to take home. They are on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 11:00 at the museum, 1921 Avenue F in Rosenberg. Cost is $5 per child, $4 for members. Parents are welcome to stay.

We have two Make & Takes in December. Kids will enjoy being part of the holiday preparations. December 9 the children will be making an elaborate Christmas card, just in time to mail to grandparents, family or friends. December 16 they will make ornaments to take home and hang on the family Christmas tree or to give their teachers. We have a wide variety of materials, like glitter, lace, sequins, stickers and more, to work with. These spectacular cards and ornaments will be treasured for years to come.

On February 7, the kids will make a box of fake Valentine candy. The “candy” will be made of Styrofoam, Model Magic, acrylic paint & wax. The pieces of candy will be put in a decorated box. You’ll be tempted to take a bite; but don’t. Children really enjoy this craft. Parents of younger kids are encouraged to stay and help your child.

March 31 we will create six “designer” eggs. Bring 6 egg shells, with the egg yolk & white blown out. They will decorate their eggs with dye, jewels, string, beads, paint and a number of other supplies. This Make & Take will be followed by an Easter Egg Hunt, so bring your basket. Special appearance by the Easter Bunny, so parents, bring your cameras.

May 5 children will make a Mother’s Day present. The children will make a picture frame, have their photo taken; the pictures will be printed out and inserted into the frame. Mother’s will be delighted to receive this gift and the kids will be proud to give it.

June 9 kids will be making a key chain for a Father’s Day present.

Calling ahead is not required, but would be appreciated. To reserve your spot, or if you have questions, call the museum at 281-633-2846.
