Giving your dog a bath

Introdude paw touching. Take a few minutes a couple of times a day to touch your dogs feet and rub your finger between his toes. This will make nail clipping easier.

Practice practice. Show your dog the brush. Let him sniff and play with it for a few seconds. Brush its coat a few times in the direction of the hair growth. Stop and reward with a small food treat and verbal praise. Each day increase the number of brush strokes. So the same with the comb.

Look inside. Open your rdogs mouth and handle its ears. Follow with praise and healthy treats. This is good for later on if the dogs needs pills or ear medicine.

Wade in. Depending on the size of your pet you can bathe it in sink or bath-tub. Make sur the water is warm befor you get your dog wet.

Work from the feet up. Fill the sink or tub to a depth that gets only your dog's feet wet. Give him time to get used to the water. Praise and give him a treat. Then, Add

water to get the dog's legs wet first then his body. Wet the head last.

Throw in the towel. AS you dry your dog with a towel, Let your dog play tug awith one end of the towel so the end of bath time seems more like play time.

Finish with the dryer. The sound-and hot blast-of a hankd held blow dryer can frighten some dogs. so slowly introduce your dog to it. Turn it on low and place it on a table for a few minuter to let your dog get used to the sound. Offer your dog treats at this time. Hve the dryer on low and work slowly from your dog's rear to the head. Finish the bath up with praise and treats and some play time.
